PDF Standard Conversion

Starting with 3.2.0, ComPDF Flutter SDK supports reading a document's declared standard type and converting it into a copy using a selected PDF standard. Choose a target for archiving, prepress, engineering documents, or accessibility requirements.

Key Capabilities

  • Read standard types: Use getPdfStandardType() to read the type declared by the current document.
  • Choose a target: Use the PDF/A, PDF/X, PDF/E, PDF/UA, and PDF/VT families. See the guide below for specific targets.
  • Write a converted copy: Use convertToPdfStandard() to specify the output path and font subsetting, retaining the source file.
  • Handle results: Check the return value and exceptions, then open the output file after success.

Workflow

Open the document, read its standard type, choose a target, and set a writable output path. Save changes you need to retain before processing. For an encrypted document, first write and open an unencrypted copy, then convert it.

Reading the standard type identifies the document's declaration, rather than performing full conformance validation. Use an output path different from the source. See the detailed guide for document reload behavior and exception handling.
